on point last seen, the play

Thanks to the hard work of Odelle Bowman and Dawn McAndrews and a lovely group of artists (named below!), Point Last Seen has now been adapted for theater. The inaugural presentation of the play—based on excerpts from the book, this blog, and interviews with me—will be on 14 August 2014 at the lovely Theater in Monmouth, Maine. The website for Point Last Seen, the play, provides more information and will include subsequent tour dates as they are scheduled. Odelle Bowman does incredible work in the world with young women, many of whom know all too well stories like mine . . . because in them they hear echoes of stories like their own. Odelle works in a genre that baffles me whole-cloth, and yet manages to stay undeterred and hopeful and to make that hope do some hard daily work where it matters most.

I’m so grateful to this brave woman, for her vision and determination to tell this story in a way that will reach more people, and to every one who is working with her to make it happen: Dawn McAndrews (dramaturg), Susan C. Bickford (videographer), Barb Truex White (sound designer), Michael Reidy (set and lighting design), and Christine McDowell (costume design). Links to each of their websites can be found at the artist’s page on PLS, the play.
